AHP20 Supplement: Mariner's Guide to Accuracy of Depth Information in ENC
Information regarding the accuracy of depth information in Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC), and how mariners should interpret that information, forms a chapter of the Mariner’s Handbook for Australian Waters. However, this information is also likely to be useful to mariners and maritime training organisations that do not require the accompanying regulatory and procedural information contained in other chapters.
Chapter 13 of the Mariner’s Handbook for Australian Waters has therefore been published as a separate digital supplement. It addresses a number of misconceptions amongst mariners regarding the accuracy of bathymetry within ENC, and the impact that accuracy should have upon route planning and conduct.
The information contained in the supplement is equally applicable to any vessel using ENC. In particular, as it describes the Zones Of Confidence (ZOC) system used by all nations in their ENC, it may be useful to mariners navigating beyond Australian waters.
Mariners already using the Mariner’s Handbook for Australian Waters may find the same information within the full publication. There is no requirement to separately carry this supplement.
